Louis Vuitton's Artifacts: A Journey through Time, Travel and Taste

Luxury and designer brands have long been more than just fashion labels. Although their haute couture and prêt-à-porter collections, characterized by exceptional creativity and craftsmanship, are at the heart of the fashion houses, they don't disappoint when they dip their toes into other industries. For example: La Maison Louis Vuitton, steeped in tradition, understands that its history is about more than just designing distinctive pieces of fashion, it is about creating experiences and telling stories through them. As a result, the prestigious luxury brand has taken several initiatives to strengthen its fashion communication.

A New Icon of Elegance: Louis Vuitton Enters the World of Hospitality
Walking along the Avenue des Champs-Élysées, you can see an impressive structure that looks like a giant Louis Vuitton trunk. Behind the shimmering silver facade is the first ever Louis Vuitton hotel, due to open in 2026. The building and its remarkable design underline the brand's distinctive aesthetic while paying tribute to its heritage - the world of travel reimagined through the unmistakable monographic trunk. And one is for sure, the Maison's talent for combining the brand's long-standing heritage with the new will not fail to attract the attention of admirers of phenomenal architecture walking along one of the world's most famous avenues.
A Celebration of Art and Design: Discovering the Fondation Louis Vuitton
Located in the Bois de Boulogne, a popular park in the 16th arrondissement of Paris, la Fondation Louis Vuitton pour la Création was opened in 2014 on the initiative of the LVMH group, Louis Vuitton's parent company. The Fondation's mission to serve the public and promote the arts is reflected in its diverse programme. It curates temporary exhibitions of contemporary and modern art and displays works from its collection. Visitors can immerse themselves in exhibitions dedicated to great artists ("Inventing a new world: Charlotte Perriand", "Simon: Hantaï. The Centenary Exhibition"), modern art ("Icons of Modern Art, the Shchukin Collection", "Keys to a Passion") and approaches to art in France and around the world ("Art/Afrique, le nouvel atelier", "In Tune with the World"). The Auditorium also hosts cultural events such as concerts, film screenings, performances and conferences. In this way, the Fondation has succeeded in bringing together all forms of art to create a cultural center that inspires and honors artists. Bernard Arnault, Chairman and CEO of LVMH, describes it as "[a] new space that opens up a dialogue with a wide public and offers artists and intellectuals a platform for debate and reflection". The building itself, designed by Frank Gehry, a renowned architect and designer, is a reminder of the contemporary and modern to which the museum is committed.

Louis Vuitton Exhibitions: Crafting Stories through Art
Exhibition: "200 Trunks, 200 Visionaries"
In honor of Louis Vuitton's 200th birthday, the Maison curated an exhibition entitled "200 Trunks, 200 Visionaries". After its first opening at the Louis Vuitton family home in Asnières, the exhibition travelled to Singapore, Los Angeles and finally New York. To curate the exhibition, the Maison invited talents and friends from culture and the arts, science, sport and global causes to reinterpret the famous Louis Vuitton trunk. Each was given a blank canvas, roughly the size of the original trunk created by the Maison's founder in the 1850s, to unleash their creativity. The results, which embody creativity, dreams and aspirations, reflect the individual experiences and small moments that come from travelling with your trunk.
Faye McLeod, the Maison's image director, described the exhibition as follows: "This project has always been about creativity - a real tribute to Louis's ingenuity and entrepreneurial spirit. We get to see how such as cross-section of talents answered the same brief while also taking a moment to appreciate the man himself."
Exhibition: "LV Dream"
From 12 December 2022 to 15 November 2023, Louis Vuitton opened its "LV Dream" exhibition in Paris. There, visitors were able to discover the history and heritage of the luxury brand. Nine elaborate rooms focused on different themes, each underlining the House's distinctiveness. Additionally, historic leather goods, bespoke products such as trunks brought to life in collaboration with artists, and portraits of Louis Vuitton by Alex Katz and Mister Cartoon could be admired. Overall, the exhibition paid tribute to the Maison's extraordinary history and heritage.

Saint-Tropez
In 2022, the Maison of Louis Vuitton opened a summer pop-up restaurant on the terrace of the prestigious White 1921 Hotel, overlooking la Place de Lices in the heart of this exclusive destination. During the first summer, Michelin-starred chef Mory Sacko took over the restaurant and treated guests to fine dining inspired by African, Japanese and French cuisine. The following year, Sacko was succeeded by pastry chef Maxime Frédéric, who is also Chef de Pâtisserie at the Louis Vuitton Café in Paris, and Arnaud Donckele, the youngest chef to be awarded three Michelin stars. With a shared commitment to authenticity and simplicity, they have created a menu that focuses on the flavors of the Mediterranean.

New York: "Le Café Louis
Vuitton NYC"
In 2024, Louis Vuitton unveiled "Le Café Louis Vuitton NYC", located on the fourth floor of the Maison's flagship store in Manhattan. Luxuriously furnished and equipped with a library of 650 books, the café creates a cozy atmosphere. Under the direction of Arnaud Donckele and Maxime Frédéric, Christophe Bellanca - Executive Chef - and Mary George - Executive Pastry Chef - have created a delicate menu that reflects a fusion of French and local cuisine. George describes the café's intention as follows: "If you can pull ingredients from all over, it's like a personal experience for every single person. And that's what we aspire to do for every table: create something that they're not going to forget, something where even one ingredient might resurface from their childhood and hit close to heart for them".
