Coachella in High Fashion: When Festival Fashion Meets Elegance

Since its inception in 1999, Coachella has become the ultimate place to see and be seen. It's not just about admiring the biggest names in music, it's also about showing what the fashion world has to offer. Therewith, the world's most influential music festival, held in Indio, California, has become the latest opportunity to upgrade your wardrobe for these seemingly unique days. However, recent years have shown that Coachella isn't just about presenting the most festival-ready boho chic looks, as celebrities start to make their own statements by wearing elegant and high-fashion garments.

Taking a look at the most worn outfits from Coachella, we spot styles that shine through maximalism, accompanied by a touch of bohemianism that somehow always has a special kind of connection to the festival atmosphere. Accessories such as giant belts, flower crowns and statement necklaces were everywhere, accompanied by eye-catching outfits that often included fringe detailing, denim pieces, bright colors or classic suede or cowboy boots. With these pieces and styles automatically associated with typical festival attire, we can now see attendees making a fashion shift by opting for outfits and garments that are much more minimalist, atomising the allure of high-end fashion. Although these looks are different from the 'classic' Coachella core, they make their own statement by writing a new story that is characterized by timelessness, sophistication and simplicity.

Let's take a look at some of the most striking, elegant and high-end looks from this year's Coachella!

For FWRD's Coachella kickoff event, Kendall Jenner - who is the company's creative director - chose an elegant, sandy-coloured dress by Danish label Tove, paired with kitten heel sandals by The Row.

The following day, her tequila brand 818 hosted an event at Coachella, where Kendall wore a minimalist and refined maxi dress by Proenza Schouler in a light yellow hue.
Emma Roberts attended the Revolve Festival in a sheer, high-neck maxi dress. Teamed with a pair of Jim Sander sandals, she effortlessly creates a refined look. With this minimalist yet sophisticated outfit, she proves that an elegant and timeless look is also suitable for festival wear.
Leonie Hanne created an iconic Coachella look, giving Chanel its big festival moment. She wore a light purple Chanel dress emblazoned with the luxury label's logo, completing the outfit with a small round bag, a black and gold Chanel belt, a pair of black sunglasses and Celine cowboy boots. This look still has some elements that remind us of the typical festival style. However, Leonie didn't make her cowboy boots and belt look expected, opting instead for a more elegant version of them, creating a look that has a special kind of effortlessness. Under her post she wrote: "After 10 years of dressing up for Coachella I decided I can wear whatever I want", showing that it doesn't always have to be the "traditional" festival outfit and that a little bit of elegance can add a new kind of appeal.

For the Revolve Festival, she chose a white lucent midi dress by Magda Butrym, which she accessorized with a pastel green Lady Dior mini and sunglasses in the same shade.

Besides, we could see that Hailey Bieber chose more than one memorable piece for her Coachella wardrobe that won't be easily forgotten. For the afternoon event at 818, where her company Rhode installed a booth, she wore a black mini dress with a dramatic open back and halter neckline. While this dress is certainly eye-catching, it is also simple in its silhouette and detailing. She completed the look with leather flip-flops by Toteme and black Saint Laurent shades.

Moreover, she dressed in a burgundy vintage leather top by Mugler for this year's Coachella. She teamed it with black trousers by Gimaguas, suede trainers by Dries Van Noten and gold jewellery, including a diamond-encrusted watch by Piaget. While this look isn't typically elegant - as in the case of Kendall Jenner's minimalist dresses - it does combine sporty, sculptural and architectural elements to create a memorable, poised look that showcases the work of high-end brands and their creative vision.
